The study of the bogue (Boops boops (L.)), from Algarve waters was carried out using otoliths and scales to prepare age-length keys. Linear and non-linear methods were used to estimate the parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation using length-at-age values.

The best parameter estimates were obtained with the Ford-Walford method, giving L¥ = 40,80cm, K = 0,163 and t0 = -2,122. No significant differences were found between males and females.
